You’ve been telling upper management since JUNE that we should prepare for 300% Holiday volume over last year and they should either *MASSIVELY* up their HR game and implement a second shift and/or stop courting new customers until the infrastructure is in place to handle it... and the morning numbers show 300% over this time last year.

I’m in the slightly opposite boat that absolutely nobody steps up orders this time of year and things slow to a crawl - because nobody buys multiple tens of thousands-worth of high precision pharma-grade conditioning equipment for Christmas. NOBODY.

So, I’m pretty free to take some time off and enjoy the end of year bonus. You are free to hate me now.

If middle management (me) gets the same bonus we did last holiday season its sayonara. Actually, I’m planning on leaving anyway in the spring, but if my holiday bonus is the same as it was last year I’ll leave that pay period.

Lucky guy. This is the time of the year when bonehead project managers have agreed to deliver reports either right before or right after the holidays. We had one due last Wednesday, the next one is due Dec. 23rd., and the next one after that is due Jan. 6th. I’ve spent many vacations working on reports because they ask for last-minute revisions even though I completed the work before I left.

Picture one actually happens all the time here, because there is a common property cap revolver that lives on one of the filing cabinets.

A few years ago a place I was working had traditionally always closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Then one day in early December, the owner (small business) comes out and says, “We have to be open over that week, no way we can close [due to a new line of business we were getting into].”

I almost walked out right then, I was furious. In fact, I did leave 2 months later once I was able to find something else. I couldn’t in good conscience leave with a 1-year-old at home.

He did kind of get his way, though, and we stayed open. To cover the time, we decided that no one expected us to be open so we had ONE of us come in for each of the 5 days or whatever. It was very quiet and basically I did my own personal work during that time because f-that. And I am still friends with the owner, go figure.
